Someone is sending raw print commands to open network printers on port 9001 which inform people about reddit.com/r/antiwork (via twitter.com/4b4c41/status/1465)

Reminds me of this crap weev pulled a couple of years back sending nazi propaganda to open printers on universities etc (vice.com/en/article/gv5ykw/hac)

The medium isn't the message, the message is the message.

#Varia (online)

vvvvvvaria.org/en/wordmord-dea

#WordMord is a collective artistic research which started as part of the seminar #Feminist Practices in the Public Space at the Era of Globalised Technologies, by the Centre of New Media and Feminist Practices in the Public Space.

In this worksession WordMord will show and discuss tools and processes through which they they investigate violent words and their arbitrary use in legal and journalistic/media contexts.

Afterwards Allison Parrish @aparrish will conduct the workshop 'Creative #Writing with #Computers, #Noise and Mulch':
We know computers best as tools for analyzing #text, composing text, and "correcting" text through grammar and spell check. But computation is an equally useful tool for pulling language apart, grinding it down, and making it unfamiliar. This workshop offers a short series of hands-on tutorials with code that facilitates destructive and defamiliarizing operations on text(...)

To register to the workshop: hello@wordmord-ur.la (limited spots)

Allison Parrish is a computer programmer, poet, and game designer whose teaching and practice address the unusual phenomena that blossom when #language online and computers meet. She is an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program (...)

Read & Repair with Elodie Mugrefya & Amy Suo Wu

Date: Sunday, 28th November 2021
Time: 11:00-13:00 (Read) & 13:30-15:30 (Repair)
Location: #varia (Gouwstraat 3)

READ
The text selection and our reading choreography in October was made by Elodie Mugrefya. During this reading session we'll be with texts which do not claim the 'traditional' practice of archiving, so to break off its norms and authority, but which are very much attentive to and invested in modes of memory-caring.

- Islands of Decolonial Love by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson
- The Plot of Her Undoing by Saidiya Hartman

REPAIR
The Repair session will be guided by Amy Suo Wu. In this session, we’ll explore facilitator and healer, Meenadchi’s Decolonising Non-Violent Communication (DNVC), through the practice of mending damaged textiles. To join please bring along a piece of damaged textile. We will provide needles and thread, but feel free to bring along your favourite haberdashery accessories. Do wear comfy Sunday clothes as we’ll start the session with a qi gong exercise.

Please let us know if you would like to join by emailing info@varia.zone. We will be wearing masks in the space and keeping a 1.5m distance. For this reason, there is a limited number of places.

Cómeme Records has published some really great "electro therapy" DJ sessions from South America. If you don't speak Spanish you might want to skip the dialogues in the first 25 min. or so. #tootradio

Btw, if you think that ”everyone can speak or understand English”, think again.

Only about a fifth or a fourth of the world population can, in some extent, use English, and for many of those people their English skills are far from what you would consider ”can speak English” on a webbed cyte such as this one.

The share of world population having English skills has been in decline during the last decade, btw.

So, learn to use other languages, too, if you care for the people around you.

Mastodon admins!

You can tweak your instance theme so that it highlights media which do not have a text description:

gist.github.com/FiXato/3de505b

A lot of people use Mastodon through audio from screen readers, so it is important to encourage your users to add text descriptions to images.

(The theme is made by @balrogboogie and @FiXato , and thank you to @Mayana for letting me know about the theme!)

Neat way to see all the big, popular data centers (hello, Hetzner Helzinki)

Or to explore smaller, less popular hosting providers.

👍 to @poduptime for this great map!
